Holidays & Holy Days
Holidays and Holy Days
The holidays of the Jewish calendar are meant to be observed and celebrated as part of a community. Most of our holiday services are conducted from creative service booklets which makes them particularly tailored to the mood and themes of the holiday.
- The service schedule includes most of the holiday evening services and all the morning services.
- Some of our High Holy Day services require membership and tickets, but many do not. Our Selichot evening includes a service, a dessert reception and a discussion.
- At Rosh Hashanah we do Tashlich along with dinner at the beach or a park.
- Yom Kippur afternoon's N’ilah service concludes with school students in a candlelight processional followed by a Break Fast open to the community.
- At Simchat Torah we also consecrate students who are beginning their journey of lifelong Jewish learning.
- Yizkor is included during the services on Yom Kippur, Simchat Torah/Shemini Atzeret, Passover and Shavuot.
- Many evening holiday services are followed by a congregational dinner. Children’s activities are offered towards the end of the meal.
- On the first night of Passover we hold a community-wide seder.
